A Journal of my experiences in China

I’m decorating my Christmas tree and enjoying my few German decorations- china with red ribbons, presents from dear German friends. I stumbled on your blog and , while listening to The Messiah, have enjoyed my activities and have wondered how you could really celebrate Xmas in China. Then again, I’m in Arizona in balmy temperatures so I guess you make of Xmas what you want.
Have a good one!
There is Christmas in China, but it’s a little different. It’s cold in Shanghai and the commercial aspects are all over town with elaborate decorations and sales. And there are enough Chinese Christians and foreigners living here to populate the several Christian churches around town, most of which have Christmas services including at least a couple midnight masses. If one hangs out in the laowai (foreigner) enclaves, one can experience the whole deal including the food and Christmas Eve parties and such, but for most Chinese, if Christmas falls on a workday, it’s just another workday. This year it’s in the weekend, so that’s a little different. I have taught school on Christmas Day……………
Thanks for your note…………Merry Christmas.
